Does Camtasia offer a free trial? 

It does but hides the options from you.

When you decide to try it for free, the terms aren’t super clear. Our research shows that the free trial has no time limit, but Camtasia users have reported it as dishonest and misguiding. 

How? 

The platform lets you record and edit videos for free but requires a purchase to export or finalize them. 

You can’t arrive at a final outcome without buying a license. The free trial only gets you into the product but doesn’t offer much value.

Are There Surprises at Renewal? 

According to online reviews, maintenance is an issue customers face over time. Updates sometimes need to be installed manually or with the help of Camtasia’s support team. Furthermore, new versions have been reported to often cause freezes and usability problems oftensia’s enterprise customers also report additional support fees from the Camtasia team to total anywhere between 5 to 20% of license fees.

Do Plans and Pricing Change Often?

Yes. 

This is not because the plans' cost changes but because random discounts have been applied to license purchases throughout the year. 

Camtasia also allows software resellers to sell its software, which also introduces arbitrary discounts (as seen in the image below).
