Storylane Review: Key Features, Pricing & Insights (Updated for 2025)

An unbiased summary of Storylane's top capabilities and online reviews.

The TL;DR is → Storylane is one of the most straightforward, affordable solutions to quickly build interactive demos. However, it is a little behind competitors like Arcade, Guideflow, and Navattic when it comes to replicating your exact product experience, and adding on-brand visual polish.

There are a ton of positive things to say about Storylane, so this guide won’t be a pitch to convince you to switch to Arcade. Instead, we looked at hundreds of real customer reviews, read through online forums, and listened to our own sales calls where Storylane is referenced as the #1 contender.

Let’s dive in 🔽

An overview of Storylane’s key features

1. Demo hub

Guide prospects through tailored demo playlists or gallery-style layouts, helping them focus on the most relevant aspects of your product.

This feature is also super helpful for sales teams to send prospects these as a “leave-behind” library of product demos.

2. Sandboxes & templates

Storylane provides an HTML-based editor for making content, images, and text changes without coding skills. Blueprint product demos can be turned into re-usable templates with editable components (through HTML editing).

Sales reps can use sandboxes to run live demos, populate them with realistic data, and ensure smooth demos with Presenter Notes.

3. Demo personalization: Tokenized demos

You can use “tokens” to quickly switch demo components for more personalized assets like prospect images, accurate date/time, and other variables.

4. Lily AI

AI-powered guided tours, voiceovers, avatars, and an intuitive HTML editor to eliminate manual work and enable faster, more engaging demo experiences.

Although Storylane just announced Lily, these AI-enabled features are nothing new. Most interactive demo platforms have AI avatars, translations, multi-language voiceovers, and AI demo editing. What’s great about Lily is the ability to do these automatically without user inputs or requests.

Real (& recent) reviews from Storylane customers

This review sums up well what Storylane’s customers have to say about the tool ⤵️

Multiple people mention how easy the platform is for people with limited budget and design constraints 👇

Others rave about the usefulness of its AI features for quick demo creation in sales:

“Storylane took me just 20-30 minutes to create any pitch intro with full graphics, transitions, screen shots, animated graphics, videos and focus areas and the AI generated voice overs are amazing.”

The most common complaints are around the need to upload screenshots constantly, and very limited design and navigation options ⤵️

Others would live more detailed engagement data (both to make improvements and enable workflows) and reiterate the pain of relying on screenshots instead of native HTML captures.

What about forums and communities (like Reddit)?

A common thread in online forums is how user-friendly Storylane is, and that is can service multiple use cases across GTM functions (Sales, Marketing, CS).

Many people find Arcade and Storylane similar in terms of features and ease of use, but prefer Arcade visual polish (both for users and demo viewers).

User experience & customer support

Storylane's Customer Support

Support rating: 10/10 👍

Storylane's customer support is highly regarded for its responsiveness and helpfulness. Users frequently commend the support team for being knowledgeable and eager to assist.

For instance, a reviewer on G2 notes 👇

"The customer support team is also fantastic. The team is responsive, knowledgeable, and always eager to help."

User experience for Storylane customers

There’s a difference between the experience for Storylane’s customers (people who build demos), and Storylane’s customers’ customers (people who view demos).

Following?

For people who build demos, the experience is intuitive and user-friendly. Creating interactive demos is simple. Many users appreciate the platform's efficiency and the speed with which they can develop demos.

As one user shares, "I was up and running with a product demo in 15 minutes having never used the program before."

The usability issues comes when updating demos, or trying to make demos match your company’s brand. There, Storylane lacks, where tools like Arcade (that’s us) shine.

Here are a few examples from Arcade 👇

User experience for viewers of Storylane demos

Some users have noted a desire for more advanced visual customization options to enhance the viewer experience further.

As one reviewer points out ⤵️

"Limited Visual Customization: Some users find that while Storylane is visually appealing, it may not offer as much customization as other platforms like Arcade."

Pricing & scalability

Storylane’s pricing: A straightforward summary

The platform has a free plan that includes one creator, one published demo, and basic features. Otherwise, choose from 3 plans:

  • Starter ($40/month per creator): 1 seat, unlimited demos, AI voiceover assistance, basic lead capture, and integrations with HubSpot and Zapier.
  • Growth($500/month for 5 creators): All features of the Starter plan, plus HTML demo editor, demo personalization with tokens, custom lead forms, 10+ integrations, and advanced viewer analytics.
  • Premium ($1200/month): All features of the Growth plan, plus custom seats, offline demos, demo coaching, SSO, Salesforce integration, and a white-label demo URL.

💡 Note: There’s a waitlist to get access to Lily AI. Pricing for Lily AI is unknown.

How scalable is Storylane’s pricing?

Scalability rating: 6/10 👍👎

It’s affordable, but be prepared to incur extra costs when you add seats above your plan’s limits.

Note also that Storylane has multiple features as “add-ons” which can increase your subscription significantly.

Limitations:

❌ Extra costs for new seats.

❌ Paid add-ons.

❌ Key sales features (demo hubs, Salesforce integration) on high-ticket plans.

3 expert tips to get the most out of Storylane

1. Avoid using standard capture through Storylane’s chrome extension

When recording demos with Storylane, our advice is to avoid capturing screenshots, and record using HTML demo when you can.

Screenshot captures often create too many steps that aren’t necessary or well-adjusted, which will add significant editing time.

2. Utilize modals and forms

Conversions are the ultimate goal of any good interactive demo. To enhance your messaging and conversions with Storylane, consider the following:

Incorporate modals—pop-up elements within your demos—to deliver personalized messages or embed pre-recorded videos. This approach fosters a deeper connection with prospects, ensuring your key messages resonate even after live interactions. It also by-passes Storylane’s limited video capabilities.

3. Use AI, but not too much

Lily AI’s capabilities are awesome, but like in marketing and sales, leaving it all to AI is a lousy bet. Utilize Lily to help you brainstorm ways to improve demos and get through repetitive work faster, but do not build demos from the ground up with AI. Our experience is that those demos don’t convert well.

💡 An exception could be for micro-demos that showcase simple feature steps. Read about micro demos here

Main drawbacks & weaknesses

1. Screenshot-based editing is a pain

As we mentioned above and a recurring comment by Storylane customers, screen-shot-based editing is a pain.

It involves a ton of manual work, and grabbing screenshots introduces constant errors, as most product screens will look similar (example below 👇).

This is a common complaint in customer reviews online ⤵️

2. Creative tools are much more limiting than in other platforms

Storylane simply doesn’t have the customization range that platforms like Arcade, Guideflow, and Supademo have.

Viewers can clearly detect demos made with Storylane, whereas Arcades are often much more aligned with your company’s brand and user experience.

3. Pricing sneaks up on you

Storylane’s pricing is affordable, but can sneak up on you as you scale usage, for 2 reasons:

  • Many key features (like Lily AI, demo hubs, and sandboxes) are sold separately as add-ons.
  • As you scale and invite your team, you’ll quickly jump to expensive plans.

For example 👇

Storylane’s Growth plan starts at $500 and includes 5 users.

Arcade’s Growth plan starts at $425 and includes 10 users.

4. Video features aren’t on par with other platforms

The very best product tours combine interactive elements with video, and for a good reason. Interactive content outperforms video by more than 7x. It’s therefore crucial that your interactive demo platform has good video capabilities. In Storylane, videos take a long time to load, and interactive elements like tooltips and modals aren’t supported.

Try building a demo in Arcade (with more design options)

Arcade is the top Storylane alternative if you value visual polish and conversion optimization. Companies like Zapier choose Arcade over Storylane because Arcade helps recreate the exact product experience, under your exact branding, not Storylane’s.
